About Us

Micheal Swank – Founder

“Creativity is more about taking the facts, fictions, and feelings we store away and finding new ways to connect them. What we’re talking about here is metaphor. Metaphor is the lifeblood of all art, if it is not art itself. Metaphor is our vocabulary for connecting what we are experiencing now with what we have experienced before. It’s not only how we express what we remember , it’s how we interpret it – for ourselves and others.”

Our Story

Proyectos de Residencia MX – Our residency program welcomes multidisciplinary artists of all ages and backgrounds to explore the richness of Mexico City in the context of your creative process. PRMX is for emerging and experienced artists, designers, architects, curators, and researchers to pursue their creative endeavors without pressure to produce. We are a Queer safe space and do not edit ourselves to the comfort of opposing viewpoints. We hope for constructive and honest experiences. We do not discriminate based on age, level of experience, sexual orientation, the genre of artistic expression, degrees held, or the myriad of other limitations that are used to define the creative expression. Creating opportunities with respect to the individual and community is our mission.

We are more than one

Finding the best partners on this adventure is super important. We seek diversity in skills and look for ways to ensure the best experiences possible for our artists.

YESSÍCA TORRES DE MARÍN

Dab Art Co. Founder & Chief Curator

In 2011 Yessíca Torres de Marín opened H Gallery + Studios in Ventura, California. As co-owner and chief curator of H Gallery, Yessíca’s contemporary and modern program was a clear break from the conventional art scene that surrounded her. H Gallery is now a satellite gallery for Dab Art and one of the most prevailing contemporary art spaces in the greater Los Angeles area.

With the revelation that art exposure should not be limited by physical location, Yessíca independently established the Dab Art Company in 2014. This distinctive art company is dedicated to enhancing the contemporary art experience for artists, collectors, and viewers in and outside the gallery setting.

In 2019 Yessíca made the move from Ventura to Los Angeles proper. The Dab Art Co. headquarters and main Gallery are now located within the historic core and heart of the arts district in Downtown Los Angeles. In 2020, she is expanding her company internationally with a new satellite gallery and artist residency program in Mexico City.

Yessíca is never without her beloved Labrador Retriever, Oso. They can usually be spotted cruising together in her classic Volkswagen Beetle.
