Hanne Carrington Reay

Artist:  Originally from the UK, Hanne was graduated from Glasgow School of Art in Scotland with a degree in painting. During her third year at GSA, she completed an exchange with Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She has curated group shows in Philadelphia and New York City most notably, “Wrote for Luck” at Kouros Galleries in NYC in 2006. Her work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions in the UK, the US, and Mexico.  She has published articles, reviews, and critiques and most recently she has written about her experiences as a trans woman. Hanne lives and works in Mexico City.

Artist Statment: I am an incurable romantic. Colour is the driving force in my work and as a painter, I loved mixing paint to make new colours and colour combinations. My work is abstract and I am part of a tradition of modern abstraction that includes among others; Hilma Af Kint, Sonia Delaunay, Paul Klee, Chris Martin, Thomas Nozkowski, Caroline Achaintre, and Anna Betbeze. I use the traditionally female craft technique of Rya to express a transfeminist point of view and add a little love, colour, and creativity to the world.
